The software is an essential part of the records of achievement system. It would be logistically impossible to operate the course without computer aid. A laser printer (or 2) capable of Epson emulation is highly recommended for printing reports. The current version is written in Basic 5 and will run on any Archimedes or A3000 computer. A hard disc is an advantage but not essential. An interpreted language such as Basic has the great advantage that development can be done quickly and the program has had many refinements made at the request of the staff using it. It is fair to say that the software has evolved with the assessment system, largely to the specification of the users.
